Your promise for digital rights in Europe
was an innovative campaign that sought to bring digital rights to the
agenda of the European elections 2014. It gathered wide support from
throughout the political spectrum as well as from civil society and
citizens. This campaign was run by a network of 36 European civil rights organisations and activists
that have joined forces in Brussels as European Digital Rights, in cooperation with the activist collective GoVeto and 17 partner organisations. Participating EDRi members were:
new European Parliament will be hugely important for our digital rights
online, with legislation expected on copyright, cybercrime, data
protection and surveillance. The WePromise project promoted a positive
agenda for digital rights in the EU Parliament for the next five years.
idea of the WePromise.eu was simple: Candidates and voters could make a
promise to each other. Candidates promised to support a Charter of ten
digital rights principles. Citizens promised to vote – for candidates
who had signed the Charter.
